Richard Gere's plans to open a luxury country hotel have come unstuck. The
Pretty Woman actor and his business partner Russell Hernandez spent $2.7 million on a 14-acre property in the picturesque town of Bedford, New York, with hopes of converting the 18th century barn into an exclusive complex, complete with inn and restaurant. However, the actor has failed to get approval for his project due to the lack of disabled access in his plans, and has been instructed to go back to the drawing board. Hernandez told New York Daily News newspaper: 'The fact that the buildings are historically significant landmarks has also slowed the project. But as soon as we have permission we will start to figure out who is going to run it.' The quaint American town is popular with many celebrities, including Martha Stewart. (C)
