![]() Murat (Baki Davrak) is 17. He is Turkish, he is a Berliner, he is gay. When he tries to realise his secret desires he encounters resistance from his brother Osman (Hasan Ali Mete) and his family. Bilidikid (Erdal Yildiz) cannot cope with being gay. He is a real man, and wants a woman he can grow old with. But he is in love with drag queen Lola (Gandi Mukli). And Lola doesn't want to have a sex change operation. Noble architect Friedrich (Michael Gerber) falls in love with surly prostitute Iskender (Murat Yilmaz). With his charm and lifestyle the well-heeled man in his mid-fifties succeeds in winning over the young Turk. But Friedrich's mother (Inge Keller), who seems to be living in the 19th century, is not best pleased and begins plotting. Walter (Jan Andres), one of Murat's schoolfriends, is basically a nice young man. But he also wants to prove to his neonazi friends that he is a real man, and brings about disaster. Lola and Bilidikid is the first film about the gay Turkish subculture which exists in Germany. With half the dialogue in German and the other in Turkish, this is certainly one of the more unusual films to have reached our shores from the continent. |
