Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai is the journey of a simpleton who revels in the security and warmth of his roots - only to discover that the roots are not really his.

Ganga (Govinda) is pure, moralistic & untouched by the realities of fife beyond his village – his 'desh'. He lives happily with his indulgent shepherd father (Shivaji Satam) & doting mother (Reema Lagoo). Sawari (Sonali Bendre) a pretty village belle, sees in him the man of her dreams.

Ganga’s blissful world comes crashing down when it is revealed that he is in fact living with his foster parents. A temporary guest given to them by his industrialist parents (Shakti Kapoor & Himani Shivpuri) who live in the city. This act ordained by Ganga’s near fatal illness at infancy is now a thing of the past and the real parents want Ganga back.

Thus begins an uprooted Ganga’s travails from the village to the city, as he discovers a new world, a new family, a new environment & new values unfolding in front of him. The king of frolic (Govinda) joins hands with the master of drama (Mahesh Manjrekar) in a film that ensures generous doses of both.
